BAG O’ LOVE; A charity event for pets in need
Bag O’ Love is back! Join us on Friday, May 14th, 2010. Your contributions will benefit Contented Critters Animal Shelter.
Two years ago I held my first “Bag O Love” charity event for pets. It was inspired by the desire to give in the spirit of my recently deceased dog named “Rascal”. Like most pet owners, I feel such gratitude and respect for the unconditional and profound love that comes from our pets. Isn’t it amazing that pets inspire us humans! My dog Rascal was certainly that way and now I have my new Border Collie named Molly and she too inspires me through her keen, puppy-love energy.
So if you feel inspired to give, join us on Friday, May 14th, 2010 at Deborah Sussex Photography portrait studio. Our goal is two fold. 1) To amass a HUGE PILE of dog/cat food to donate to Contented Critters Animal Shelter (last time we collected over ONE TON of food which was donated to the Mesabi Humane Society). 2) Provide each pet owner with fantastic and loving pet portraits of their pet…created by Deborah Sussex.
HERE ARE THE DETAILS: In exchange for a large bag O’ pet food, we will offer a FREE “mini” portrait session with your dog or cat, PLUS a low rez digital file of your favorite image from the session! Specially priced packages are available from this event with 10% of all sales being donated to Contented Critters animal shelter. We want to include as many eager donors as possible therefore, each mini session is 15 minutes long and limited to ONE pet per owner. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We will provide a pet friendly and safe environment. However, we do ask that if your pet is unreliable around other animals or has any aggressive tendencies, please consider a pet portrait session alone at another date and feel free to contribute a bag of food at that time.
RESERVATIONS ARE MANDATORY and space is limited so CALL NOW; 218-365-3077.

Photography Exhibit at the Open Eye Figure Theatre
I am thrilled to announce that I will be having a photography exhibit at the Open Eye Figure Theatre in Minneapolis; 506 East 24th Street Minneapolis, MN 55404! The exhibit is titled, Studies in the Movement of Nature; Northwoods Imagery in Multiple Exposure. You are cordially invited to an artist’s reception Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. you can view my work during the performances dates of April 1 & 2 at 8:00pm & April 3 at 7:00pm and April 7th at 7:00pm. You can see more samples of my work on Facebook. All works will be available for sale.
Equally exciting is having recently been awarded a Quickstart Grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (ARAC) in Duluth. The $500 grant will assist me in printing & mounting my images for display. I will be showing 25 color images and all are NEW WORKS. Thank you very much to ARAC for supporting me in this artistic endeavor! Here is a bit about what I described to ARAC in submitting the grant proposal;
“I embrace the challenge of heightening the emotional impact of my images and pushing beyond literal interpretation of a subject. Currently, I am exploring techniques such as, in-camera multiple exposures and photo montage in post-production editing. Both methods are very expressive and introduce the viewer of still photography to a profound sense of movement, time lapse and color dynamism.”
My photography is part of a five week series titled, It’s Women’s Work at the Open Eye Figure Theatre. The series presents the work of established female artists crossing the genres of photographic art, music, dance, and performance art. Each week, for 5 weeks, a different photographer’s work will be showcased in the threatre lobby and exhibited throughout the performance dates of a partnered performance artist. My exhibit is appropriately paired with flutist, Julie Johnson whose distinctive sound explores Minnesota history through folk music.
