Molly L. turns ONE!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Molly Piper Lindsay turned ONE YEAR OLD this month!  Her mom Wendy and dad Ryan brought her in to the studio for her one year portrait and we had a blast!  This was Molly’s 3rd portrait session with me as she has been part of my FIRST YEAR program where she is photographed as a newborn, at 6 months old, and then at ONE year!

We had fun making silly faces and playing around with my fabrics, rugs and simple props.  It was Awesome!  Molly’s mom and dad own and operate the PEBBLE SPA with locations in Ely and Virginia, MN.  Molly has beautiful skin and is an adorable spa-baby!

Living In The Balance; Burntside Lake

Living In The Balance; Burntside Lake

The 2009 Greenstone Juried Art Show & Sale is happening this coming weekend!

I am excited to share news that three of my photographs were chose to be in this years show and, along with many other artist’s work, will be for sale during the event.  Held at Miner’s Dry (across from the Grand Ely Lodge), this wonderful event is open to the public on Saturday, July 18, 6-9 PM, with the Auction at 7:30. Tickets are $25 each. Make reservations at 235-1912 or 365-5917.    Come enjoy a social and artistic atmosphere with wonderful food and drink!

Here is a preview of the three images of mine which will be shown and for sale at the show.  Each image is custom framed and ready to hang wherever that special place is that you have in mind.

The image size of “Angle of Repose” and “Living In The Balance” is 7″x7″ framed in a 16″x20″ double thick snow white mat and framed in a sleek black wood moulding.   Price for each print s $295.  Both images were made last summer while I was on a personal retreat on Burntside Lake.  I used my medium format Hasselblad camera and they are made with film!  Of course I did all the printing myself as is the case with all my fine art photography.

“Calm After The Storm” is a panorama image with the image size of 5.5″x14″ framed in a 12″x24″ snow white mat and framed in a sleek black metal moulding.  Price for this print is $165.   This image was made this past May while on an extended canoe trip in the Quetico Provincial Park of Ontario.  I used my Nikon D3 digital camera which is my workhorse for my portrait work and I am using it a bit more now with my nature photography as well.   If you have any questions about the works, please feel free to contact me.

Photography at Sulus Espresso Cafe in Tower, MN

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Another “Insider Secret” from the northwoods…read on!

Have you been to Sulus Espresso Cafe in Tower, MN?   If you have driven to Ely and gone through Tower, MN then you have passed right by Sulus.  No more excuses.  I am telling you, please stop in!  What a great place!  Fantastic food and beverages;  made-to-order sandwiches with all ORGANIC ingredients plus Pasties and fresh-made Scones/pastries every day!  Oh my gosh, my stomach growls just thinking about it!  Wake up and smell the coffee.  Sulus serves gourmet coffee from Alakef and you can take your pick from a menu of several styles (I am an Americano Girl) plus the Teas are scrumptious.

Owned and operated by Linda (Lou) and Brenda (Sue), hence the name Su-lus…these gals take their Biz seriously and want to serve you the best.  But get ready for a friendly, home-town, fun-lovin’ atmosphere that Linda, Brenda, their brother and other great servers provide!

Now you can sip your latte and nibble your yummy scone while browsing the new Photography display!  I just hung several images on the wall and am delighted to have been offered the invitation!  Single Lily, award winning Morning Fog, First Snow, Paper Birch, Big Blueberries and Misty Morning Paddle are all framed and on display.  Others will be coming soon!

Sulus is celebrating their 2nd anniversary this Fourth of July weekend. So make it a point of stopping at their strategic location en route to or from Ely!  Enjoy!
